Chief Jason Huskey

On August 3, 2017, Captain Jason Huskey took command of the Palm Desert Station, overseeing the unincorporated areas of Western Coachella Valley, while also serving as the Police Chief for the City of Palm Desert.

Captain Huskey was promoted to the rank of Sheriff’s Captain in 2015, and has commanded the Coroner and Public Administrator Bureau since then, overseeing more than 14,000 annual death investigations in the county.

Captain Huskey began his law enforcement career 27 years ago, in 1990, with the Coachella Police Department, where he served as an Officer, Detective, and Sergeant before lateralling to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. Captain Huskey first worked for the Department as a Deputy at the Indio Station, patrolling the cities of La Quinta and Coachella. In 2000, Captain Huskey was promoted to Sergeant and served at the Robert Presley Detention Center (RDPC) for three years before transferring to Moreno Valley Police Department, where he worked as a patrol sergeant. In 2006, he was transferred to the Professional Standards Bureau (Internal Affairs Unit) in 2006, and was promoted to Lieutenant the same year within that bureau.

Captain Huskey transferred to Indio Station in 2009, where he was the Assistant Police Chief for the City of La Quinta, responsible for all police operations within the city. In 2011, he was assigned to the Indio Jail, where he assisted with the planning and design of the future East County Detention Center (ECDC). During his time at Indio Jail, he chaired a committee that developed the County and Department’s first Trusted Electronic Records Preservation System for storing all Department official records.

Captain Huskey possesses a Juris Doctor Degree from Western State College of Law, a Master of Public Administration Degree from California State University, San Bernardino, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Long Beach. He is a lawyer and has been a member of the California State Bar since 2002.

Captain Huskey has lived in the Coachella Valley for 24 years where he resides with his wife and son.
