Palm Desert Residents Invited to Apply for Citizens' Sustainability Committee

Post Date:11/09/2010

The City of Palm Desert encourages residents interested in serving on the City’s Citizens’ Sustainability Committee to apply for nine openings on this new and important advisory body.

In February, the Palm Desert City Council approved the City’s Environmental Sustainability Plan and Greenhouse Gas Inventory to help ensure that the City’s resources continue to be conserved and managed effectively. The plan calls for the formation of a forward-thinking Citizens’ Sustainability Committee composed of professionals who will review proposals from City staff, offer comment, and help develop appropriate policies and actions to meet the plan’s goals. This Committee should have the foresight to evaluate the changing needs and future demographic trends that the City of Palm Desert may anticipate in the following six resource areas: the Built Environment, Energy Management, Materials Management, Regional Air Quality, Transportation Resources, and Water Management.

Applicants should have a professional background and/or a strong personal interest in sustainability that could offer insight into actions brought forward for City Council review. The nine members will meet quarterly and should represent a variety of perspectives on the issues that will be addressed as part of the process of implementing the Sustainability Plan.
