City of Palm Desert to Participate in 2010 Relay for Life

Post Date:09/04/2010 1:00 PM

Hundreds of people will walk in Civic Center Park on the first weekend in October to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor and celebrate the nearly 11 million survivors of this deadly disease at the 2010 Palm Desert Relay For Life.

The event, which is organized by the American Cancer Society, will take place from 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, until 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 3.

A team from the City of Palm Desert will walk in the Relay and members of the public are invited to form their own team and join in. Teams and walkers can be registered in advance or on the day of the event. People who are unable to walk can still participate by sponsoring a team or an individual walker or by dedicating a luminaria in honor of a loved one, friend, or colleague who has been touched by cancer. Proceeds support the American Cancer Society and its efforts to fight and eliminate cancer.

Civic Center Park is located on the northeast corner of Fred Waring Drive and San Pablo Avenue. For more information, please call 760-408-1245 or 760-996-7771 or visit
