Palm Desert’s clear blue skies and stunning mountain views contribute to the quality of life for all who live, work, and play here. In an effort to protect these valuable community assets, the City has dedicated itself to promoting energy efficient, environmentally friendly transportation. These efforts include the use of clean burning hydrogen and hybrid City vehicles, adopting policies that encourage residents to use electric golf carts when traveling in Palm Desert, and cooperation with SunLine, which uses alternate fuels to provide environmentally friendly mass transit throughout the City.

Busses

Bus transportation within Palm Desert is provided by SunLine Transit Agency. SunLine has garnered international recognition for its early embrace of and continued commitment to the use of clean burning, environmentally friendly compressed natural gas and hybrid technology to power its fleet of buses.

City Cars
In keeping with the City of Palm Desert’s commitment to clean air, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility, the City’s fleet includes a large assortment of hybrid and alternate fuel powered cars and trucks. The City’s reliance on these environmentally friendly vehicles helps to conserve energy and reduce the air polluting emissions produced by standard gasoline and diesel engines.

Golf Carts
In Palm Desert, permitted drivers are allowed to use golf carts for travel to schools, parks, businesses, shopping centers, and government offices. The City of Palm Desert’s Golf Cart Transportation Program is intended to develop a convenient transportation system that is safe and environmentally sensitive, generating zero auto emissions. The program, which dates back to 1993, has expanded the use of golf carts beyond transportation in and around golf courses by allowing carts on more public streets and private roads. The program’s long-term goal is to provide full golf cart access throughout the community.
